SEIU 721, Southern California public service workers

To LA City Council Members:

The Mayor’s plan cuts, closes, and slashes the neighborhood services we rely on. Under the current plan, we will see:

  • Rec Centers Wrecked: unsafe playground equipment, graffiti, insufficient night lighting and youth programs cut
  • Street Services Slashed: pot holes grow, gridlock in Figueroa and York corridor increase and lights fail
  • Tree Trimming Cut: Eliminating tree services means homeowners have to pay to cut sidewalk trees
  • Animals Out of Control: Cutting animal control officers means longer response times when dogs and wild animals run free

We the residents of your community ask that you commit to implementing the following solutions before you take away our parks, recreation centers, safe roads, tree-trimming and animal control officers:

1. End expensive outsourcing of services costing taxpayers $2 billion

2. Collect on the $400 million owed to the city by deadbeat debtors

3. Fully implement early retirement of employees and other city worker solutions to save $2 billion
